Terminal Manager Stillwater, MN

Liquid Transport Corp is a national, high-volume, bulk transportation company. We are a solid company and we are very well-respected in the trucking industry. We are currently seeking a candidate to fill the position of Terminal Manager at our Stillwater, MN facility. The ideal candidate will have complete control of a complex operation that includes bulk common carriage and petroleum. The ability to analyze problems, motivate the local staff to develop solutions, and interact with the shippers is a must. Experience with cost management and budgeting in the tank industry, quality management processes, and managing a mixture of company drivers and independent contractors is preferred.

Full-time, salaried, exempt. Position will plan, direct and control the freight operations of a branch terminal in line with company objectives for profit and service, working to increase revenues and lower operating costs.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement positive plans for cost control, manpower and equipment utilization, facility condition including appearance, security and safety - shop and tank cleaning facility where applicable - in compliance with Company and Safety Policy and Procedures, as well as Customer requirements;
2. Provide continuous communication with terminal associates regarding the Company Policy and Procedures and the Customer requirements making sure there is a full understanding and be visible and accessible to all employees, and continually communicate with all departments and levels of management that are involved with the terminal’s operation and business base;
3. Responsible for the profitability of the terminal - monitoring results and comparing against objectives to ensure goals are achieved;
4. Supervise local staff to ensure they carry out their assigned responsibilities to the highest standards;
5. Follow Company requirements relative to progressive discipline when necessary, which include: fair and objective analyses, complete, accurate and timely documentation, expected performance within a reasonable time period and assurance that the individual knows that non-conformance with the objectives set could result in termination;
6. Interview and select qualified individuals for terminal positions, provide a job description and be assured they understand and can perform all essential job functions; provide on-going training as needed including safety training and re-training, provide annual performance reviews, recommend wage increases when warranted following the procedure in place for approval before communicating any increase to the individual;
7. Ensure the facility and all LTC owned and contracted equipment meets LTC’s standards for appearance.
8. Update all required terminal postings timely, including but not limited to, Daily Service Report, Weekly Safety Report and Weekly Tractor Inspection report;
9. Lead the terminal level Safety Program ensuring all associates centralize their daily focus on the safe performance of all duties;
10. Schedule and conduct a minimum of one operations/safety meeting per quarter and ensure all drivers and contractors attend;
11. Ensure timely and appropriate filing and communication with all appropriate departments of any incident/accident, complete required reports and conduct investigations into these matters in order to provide Safety and other managers involved in the review as much information as is possible;
12. Monitor the process in place to receive and audit logs ensuring that the logs are forwarded to Safety on a timely basis;
13. Hire and lease drivers that have been qualified by the Safety Department - to initiate this process requires working with the National Recruiter to obtain prospective candidates, have candidate complete in its entirety the required pre-hire paperwork and drug testing and forward all to the Safety Department for background check, etc., once hired/leased, provide safety training and re-training;
14. Approve all purchases for the terminal up to a $500 limit, coordinate the Quality Process with primary vendors and maintain the terminal petty cash which must also be reviewed and approved by the Regional Operations Manager;
15. Perform all roadside inspection follow ups as required and ensure that all received by base drivers are processed within company guidelines;
16. Evaluate staffing and equipment levels and initiate the request for additions - coordinate with Recruiter the addition of drivers;
17. Develop and maintain good customer relations through courteous and consistently satisfactory service to client base striving for continuous quality improvement, participate - on a limited basis - direct sales activities in the terminal area with support from Sales and the Regional Operations Manager, coordinate with sales/operations on pricing and business growth strategies for the terminal and maintain contact with established customers through personal visits;
18. Support, implement and drive the Quality Process which includes procedures for training, error-free performance, corrective action, continuous quality improvement and performance tracking and measurement;
19. Ensure timely preparation and filing of all required daily, weekly and monthly production and quality reports and complete follow-up on service exceptions;
20. Ensure all equipment assigned to terminal is properly inspected and maintained and that there is adequate terminal coverage to support drivers;
21. Monitor the work performed by shop and tank cleaning facility, where applicable, to ensure time-efficient, cost-effective performance;
22. Ensure accuracy in the issuance of all tank wash purchase orders and assure accurate approval;
23. Review and approve all loading and unloading delay billings via the Driver’s Activity report, assuring all are complete and accurate before approving for billing;
24. Ensure proper and timely completion of all personnel status changes for all dispatchers and clerical positions at the terminal;
25. Dispatch duties, if terminal does not have a separate position for this function including yard checks;
26. Assist the Regional Operations Manager in the annual budget preparations.

Requirements

1. High School graduate or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred;
2. 10 years experience in the management of tank truck operations and supervision;
3. Good communication skills - written and verbal;
4. Computer proficiency.
