General Summary:
Contribute to the smooth running of the terminal operation by efficient
utilization of manpower and equipment through directing and controlling
the efforts of drivers and administrative personnel (where applicable)
using discretionary judgment to enforce Company Policy regarding
operations and complying with state and federal laws.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Discretion required when dispatching drivers and equipment and
assigning loads, ensuring that drivers and equipment are “Qualified"
prior to dispatch and coordinate dispatch activities with Load Planning
Center. By “Qualified", must assure the following;
a. Driver has been trained to handle the product and equipment
assigned.
b. Equipment is suitable for the product being transported.
c. Equipment, both tractor and trailer, are in compliance with all
required company and governmental inspections.
d. Driver is in compliance with all required training and
certifications, i.e. current D.O.T. physical, current driver’s license,
etc.
e. Driver can perform the tasks safely, given all circumstances
related to the dispatch.
2. Act as the point person at the terminal for the terminal level safety
initiative, assuring safety is the main criteria in all decisions made.
Review monthly safety focus items with each driver;
3. Complete incident/accident telephone reports as required;
4. Receive orders and enter into computer, assign load to equipment and
driver in a manner to ensure on time pick up and delivery and to meet
the customer’s requirements, prepare and issue all LTC delivery
documentation to the driver, update computerized dispatch and assure
driver accurately completes and turns in all required paperwork;
5. Update movement of driver and equipment via LTC’s computer as load
progresses;
6. Initiate service exception in LTC computer system within prescribed
guidelines.
7. Assure any customer specific “in progress" notifications and/or
“delay" notifications are made timely;
8. Constant interface with Load Planning Center, continually updating
available equipment, driver’s status and required assistance;
9. Daily interfaces with the customer, in a courteous manner, using
independent judgment when soliciting or turning down loads based on the
economics of the situation, equipment specifications and availability
and driver availability, offer alternatives if the original schedule
cannot be met and contacts the customer to apprise them of any delay or
other arrangement once load is accepted;
10. Prepare clean-out list with special procedures (if any), assuring
maximum accuracy in the issuance of the purchase orders;
11. Perform a regular yard check, and inform relief of the next
dispatcher shift, if applicable;
12. Act as direct supervisor of assigned drivers and contractors
assuring all support required is given while assuring compliance to all
company and governmental guidelines;
13. Recommend to the Terminal Manager any commendations or disciplinary
action felt necessary and actively participate in the Company
progressive discipline system of proper communication, setting expected
standards and time required for review, documentation and ensure that
the associate is aware of the consequences of non-conformance;
14. Assist the Terminal Manager with the development, implementation,
training and measurement of the Quality Process, communication and
documentation of incidents and or accidents and responses to shipper or
consignee complaints;
15. Perform the responsibilities of the Terminal Manager in their
absence and under the direction of the Regional Operations Manager;
16. Participate in the on-call schedule as determined by the Terminal
Manager.

Requirements
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Inspect and service
tractors and/or trailers at prescribed intervals.
2. Make all repairs to tractors and/or trailers as necessary for safe
operation.
3. Complete and maintain records of service, maintenance, costs and
inspections.
4. Follow company guidelines in regards to acceptable conduct when
dealing with supervisors, shop personnel, drivers, and customers
projecting an image of quality and professionalism at all times.
5. Comply with all established company policies and procedures, as well
as local, state, and federal law.
6. On call evenings and weekends in rotation.
Miscellaneous: Must
have own tools. This is a full-time, hourly position. Over-time is
earned after 50 hours per week per Motor Carrier Act.
